Ferrari 308 GTB Red 1/18 W1775 Hotwheels Review

The Ferrari 308 GTB is a beautiful design - the sister GTS model was made famous by the 80's television show "Magnum P.I." - the two important cosmetic differences being the removable roof and levelors on the side rear windows of the GTS.

The Hot Wheels GTB is good, but not great - here's why:

Pros:
Exterior is molded well, the doors, hood and hatchback have tight seams (sometimes you have to push them in place however).
Tires roll well, don't wobble and have a detailed tread.
Interior is reasonably detailed. The seats are not hard plastic and have more of a rubbery feel.
The decals were put on even and look good given the scale.

Cons:
The doors, hood and hatchback are plastic - the hood and hatchback feel flimsy.
The paint is a slightly lighter shade on the doors. hood and hatchback. This is very noticeable in strong light.
There is a hard plastic strip that keeps the doors closed during shipping. It leaves large scratches on the paint (from rubbing back and forth).
The plastic back window is held in place with a far too large mount and screws.
The quarter light window frame is much too thick and not to scale.

*The model I received had a good sized chip in the paint where the rear license plate would go* This is probably unique to my car however.

Hot Wheels offers the $70 308 GTS - which is all metal, but it comes with no roof UNLESS you purchase the special $200+ Magnum P.I. version. The 1/24 and 1/18 plastic or die cast models of the 308s are hard to come by - so Hot Wheels offers one of the very few choices currently available. How much you want to spend depends on how obsessive you want to get with the details. If you are just looking for a cool desk toy -the GTB is great. If you are one that will notice and dwell on the little details - you may be a little disappointed with the GTB.
